The geography of demolition
Under the Oslo Accords the West Bank was split into Areas A, B and C. In Area C — the wine-shaded ~60% under full Israeli control — Palestinians are almost never granted building permits, so this is where demolitions concentrate. Warm bubbles size each governorate’s toll; blue dots are Israeli settlements.

22 June 2026: During a 16-hour operation, the Israeli Jerusalem Municipality, accompanied by Israeli forces, demolished three buildings and an asphalt road in the densely populated Al Touri area of Kafr ‘Aqab, East Jerusalem, citing the lack of Israeli-issued building permits and security reasons related to the proximity to the wall. As a result, two households comprising seven people, including two children, were displaced, while approximately 2,645 people were severely affected. The demolition targeted three multi-storey buildings, two of which were under construction, and included both residential and livelihood-related units. In addition, an asphalt road serving as the main and only access route to the area comprising approximately 15 residential buildings was bulldozed, resulting in the destruction of the water, electricity, and sewage networks serving the area. Additionally, the demolition of the road obstructed vehicular access to all buildings and left several vehicles trapped inside the area with no exit route. As a result, residents were forced to access and leave the area on foot using inadequate alternative routes. During the operation, Israeli forces were heavily deployed throughout the neighborhood, positioning across multiple streets suppressing and attacking gathering residents with the extensive firing of sound and tear gas canisters, including directly toward residential buildings and facilities. As a result, several tear gas canisters landed inside schools while students were sitting final examinations, leading to multiple cases of tear gas inhalation. In addition, one tear gas canister caused a fire to break out on the balcony of a residential building. In addition, a 16-year-old boy was injured in the leg by a rubber bullet during the operation. According to the affected households, demolition orders had been issued against the structures in January during a previous large-scale demolition operation in the same area. However, according to the families, the demolition was carried out before all legal remedies had been exhausted and without prior notice. (Jerusalem)

16 June 2026: Israeli forces demolished agricultural stone walls in Area C of Beit Ijza village, located on the Jerusalem side of the Barrier in Jerusalem, affecting the livelihoods of three Palestinian households comprising 15 people. The operation involved bulldozing tens of dunums of agricultural land, resulting in the demolition of approximately 400 meters of agricultural stone walls and the uprooting of around 430 mature olive trees, grapevine, and almond trees. The demolition was carried out citing security reasons due to the land’s proximity to the settlement of Giv'on Hahadasha. According to the affected families, in March 2026, Israeli authorities issued a security order targeting agricultural lands in the area, which are subject to a prior coordination mechanism for Palestinian access. The families discovered the demolition and destruction of their trees on 16 June while accessing their lands during the coordinated ploughing period, during which they had been granted only three days to cultivate and plough their agricultural plots located adjacent to the settlement.
